It was a special redoing of the musical, re-scored specifically for a small orchestra to be played by the actors themselves. Cerveris, LuPone, and Felciano were all nominated for Tony Awards; the show itself was nominated at the Tonys for Best Revival and won Best Direction and Best Orchestration.
I have always wanted to see a musical where the actors are the pit. It just seems awesome. I really hope that they did it as a concert, with the people just sitting there playing the music and instruments, but I doubt it happened that way, because the actors wouldn't have it. I have the soundtrack, but never knew that they played their own instruments. That is just fucking awesome.
