Holy Dizzyness Batman!

:-)

Let me start off by saying today has been good thus far. This morning I had meteorology which is...meteorology. My professor is amusing though by using terms such as a pantload, bombogenesis, mother honkin',...etc. That class was from 9 - 10. Around 9:30 I get a text message from my flight instructor saying she scheduled me for an earlier flight...10:45. I was originally scheduled for 12:45 but it was no biggy...I got down to the flight center only to wait for a plane to become available. I waited for about an 45 mins to get a plane. After I got my plane I preflighted and briefed with my instructor. We then got in the plane and did the fasted engine start and run-up I have ever done. In normal circumstances it usually takes a person roughly 10-15 mins to do a thorough engine start and run-up. We did it in 7 mins. Within 7 mins of start up we were on the runway taking off.

We headed towards the south and did a couple stalls, which are always fun. A couple chandelles, or climbing turns on steroids! It's a lot of fun. Then we got to do my favourite thing yet...spins. I AM NO LONGER A SPIN VIRGIN! It was amazing. A spin is a very bad thing to get into by the way. Spin = DEATH. But in our planes they are so stable that we actually have to modify them to make them rotate 2-3 times in the spin. So I pulled the power out and pitched up, when the airspeed hit 45 knots I put the throttle in full and kicked a rudder to turn me to the left or right. After I did this the nose immediately when towards the ground and we started spinning in place!!! It was the most amazing feeling ever! We did a couple more spins to the left and right. Then after we were done that we headed back to Nashua. Everything was going fine until my instructor (Joanna) said that I can't use my yoke. So what this means is I have no up and down movement of the airplane, and I can't back to help me turn. All I had were my rudder pedals, trim (up and down tab on the elevator to help the airplane maintain level flight), and the throttle. This was a lesson of power management. Everything was going fine, I was descending at a good rate and my turns were pretty much on. So I lined up for final and I'm coming down and right when I get to about 100ft. of the runway a gust of wind comes from the left and broadsides my airplane! This put me off the runway so I wasn't happy. After that I got to use my yoke and do a normal landing. I would have done a landing without the yoke if it didn't get sketchy at the end. Overall it was a good flight. On Wednesday I get to takeoff on the grass strip right next to the asphalt runway!!!!!! I'm wicked excited about that! Well that is all for now. OH! And I'm also flying with Bart, my 84 year old Flight Instructor, this Saturday! So hopefully I'll get endorsed for my complex and high performance aircraft! I'm wicked excited about that too!

That is all for now. Signing out.
