This topic is fairly morbid to think about, but what happens to your internet presence after you die? I would imagine most services can be deactivated due to family request. But what about anything the family of the departed doesn't know about? Would Google servers even notice if one of their mail users passed away? With an ever growing storage capacity and no incentive to delete inactive accounts, would your X amount of mail bytes just sit there for the life of Google or the server it's on? Edit: I found out gmail accounts get flagged after 6 months of inactivity and may be deleted after 9 months of inactivity.
For example, my understanding is that Facebook doesn't delete your account, but they merely mark it as a deceased user. I've never seen a Facebook grave before, but it sounds kind of creepy.
However, there may be an interesting side to all of this. For the sake of argument, let's say Facebook will always exist and so will my account, even after I'm dead. I would think it to be interesting for my grand kids to see tagged photos of me doing dumb shit from my 20's (assuming they still exist and I haven't un-tagged them).
Just don't poke me when I'm dead.
