Tonight Brian took me to a Diary. There were many.
We have confirmed we like Spanish wines. We don't like dry sherry although we now have a deeper understanding. If we lived somewhere that hot and dry - no - no I still don't think we'd like dry sherry.
We learned that the Riojas from the area west of Barcelona are very interesting. If we were 10 years younger or older I can see buying a case. They have puropsely been designed for the past 600 years or so to meet both the demand from Barcelona/Andora for a wine that pairs well with big stinky "red meats and cheeses" (Its the first time I remember someone suggesting elk and moose as the food pairing for a wine they were selling.) as well as pairing w/ Spain's W. coast briny shellfish obsession. The word for this wine is "brainless gift". But...right now I when picking out a host(ess) gift these days the phrase that comes to mind is not what wine but, "Chocolate Milkkkkeeeyyyyyyy!" or "Juice Box!!!"
