Big burly guy. Not bad for the most part. But....
I kept explaining, "The dog's head needs to be in the crook of your elbow." I seem to be saying this A LOT lately. He kept promising that, "No, he's good. He is really strong. He can hold this dog."
Luckily I am generally a good judge of dog charachter and can work w/ the fact that big burly guy (BBG) didn't have them restrained.
ESPECIALLY when I am at their butt and BBG is much closer to their teeth. I'm not a big fan of losing flesh due to other's stupidity. I'm much more anal when I have to draw blood. Go fig. when you're sitting on the floor with your back up against a wall or door w/ no where to go and your face right in front of theirs and having to focus on a body part other than the mouth so you can't see it to get out of the way even if you could.... you get a little demanding and insistent that the dog be held tightly.
In the end I think fate will save BBG from a workers comp incident. We had the sweetest 100# + Golden (not a fat dog - gotta love the enormous dogs like that) who just wouldn't stay still to have his blood drawn. Since I knew this dog wasn't restrained but also a big goofy love, having told BBG that he didn't have the dog restrained, he would say he did, I would lift the dog's leg and the dog would SLIP RIGHT OUT OF HIS ARMS. (I mean me lots of training, been doing this for over a decade now, him first night on the job. But hey, what do I know.)
So after repeating this sceene at least 1/2 a dozen times, Whitney, who isn't a small girl but is a girl and not a BIG BURLY GUY!, who was doing BBG's training finally said, "Here let me." In one smooth moove big goofy love dog is up against the wall and restrained properly and not going anywhere.
I'm hoping BBG will finally get the message that its technique.
It was good to have some levity last night since we almost finished a few minutes before 9PM despite a plethora of microchips. Except a beagle came back in for vaccine reaction. After I finished treating him mom finally mentions that, "He vomitted after his vaccines last year, too." You could tell she still thought we were OVERREACTING to his vomitting because he'd been playing a lot before getting in the van. Yeah, I saw the bit where he was running around the parking lot unleashed with the kids trying to catch him. Maybe, the white cold gums might have been a clue?!!
We also had a plethora of loose pets last night. So after a much more tiring that it should have been evening - I am off to Disney tomorrow. :)
