First, I found out at dinner last night that I'm the seventieth doctoral student my advisor has graduated. That's seventy, seven-zero students. (Yeah, I know, a little sooner and I would have been 69th. Pervs.) That's a lot of students. And he still has one more waiting in the wings.
Second, after I got home from campus, having just freshly earned my stripes, I looked through the day's mail. And amongst it was this amusing item: a letter from a trade school that said, "You can start getting the skills you need for a rewarding career RIGHT NOW... and finish in less time than you realize."
Oh, National Institute of Technology, where were you six and a half years ago?
