Natalie surveyed herself in the full-length mirror with a critical eye, not entirely sure she liked what she saw in the reflection. The dress looked like something she had seen at the Raven. Which, for her purposes tonight, was probably appropriate; it didn't mean that she had to like it.

She still wasn't sure why she didn't like it. The black color, as always, gave her a slimmer silhouette, and the a-line skirt minimized what were, she was sure, larger hips for a vampire. Maybe it was because she went out of her way to be normal -- or as normal as possible when you drank blood for every meal -- and dressing like the stereotypical vampire bothered her.

But tonight, the idea was to be the stereotypical vampire, the one that was always seen in television shows like "Wendy" and movies like The Denied. She'd been less than sure of the idea until she'd discussed it with Nick. "Nothing better than hiding in plain sight," he said with a chuckle.

Nat looked to her reflection again, smoothing her hands over the dress. When she looked back up, her eyes were yellow, and her fangs extended. She smiled at the reflection in the mirror. "What? The eyes?" she said aloud, acting as though someone had asked her about them. "Contacts. I had a box left over from the precinct Halloween party last year, along with fangs."

She sighed. It sounded so...contrived. Then again, she knew the truth. Would it be any better if she didn't know? Shaking her head, she allowed the eyes and fangs to revert to normal. She would just go, enjoy the party, and not necessarily be "in costume"; she would make up her mind before the door opened on the gathering.

[That she's working on her costume okay for broadcast -- that she's a vampire? Obviously NOT for broadcast. ;) ]
