Thursday Night: Had dinner with Mel and Zack. Had my first encounter with Shepard’s Pie, which I rather liked. Mmmm po-ta-toes! Discussions included disappointment in the caliber of certain Stanford graduate students, the ridiculousness of ghost riding, and who’s likely to be a real contender for the Democratic ticket for President in 2008. We’re thinking Hilary for Pres and Barack for VP makes for a dangerous proposition since someone out there will want to assassinate both of them and, if they’re successful, then we end up with Nancy as Pres and phew! Wouldn’t that be something? We watched the next episode of 24: a nuclear bomb went off in Valencia at the end of the previous episode, which inspired Jack to step up to the heroic plate once more, which at the moment requires torturing his brother for information on the whereabouts of his father!? What WILL happen next??? Went to Bike Polo after that, which was good. We decided retirement communities are out of control with regulations (if you haven’t been certified by the national association of lawn-bowlers, you’re not allowed to play) and that getting booty as a guy can be easy even if you’re not the most sought after as long as you think of it in terms of probability and statistics. Saw Sarah’s bruises from her bike accident - she’s okay but her knees aren’t looking pretty…*pout*
Friday Night: Worked pretty late, didn’t get home until about 9pm. Decided to have a mellow evening. Ended up watching Cheech & Chong’s “Nice Dreams” with Jonathan and Hava & friends at their place. Played some card game, the name of which I can’t remember, but it was fun. It was good to catch up with them. It was also good to go home to my bed and fall peacefully into it at as reasonable hour.
Saturday Night: Went to Karyna & Joe’s for pre-party fun. Karyna was in rare form - bouncy and childlike, singing loudly and poorly to Prince songs (it was really, very endearing). Joe, the fantastic bartender that he is, made French Martinis to start out the evening and Chocolate Cake shots before we left. The shots were DE-LIC-IOUS!!! I could drink those forever and a day. Hazelnut liquor, Vodka and sugared lemons as a chaser. I *highly* recommend them. We got to Tonal just as Andrew and George were going on. *Loved* the house music, *finally* danced my ass off, which I haven’t done in months and really needed. It’s like you forget how much you love to dance until you’re spinning around and that natural high hits you and wham, you’re in a whole different dimension. God I love that feeling! The downside of the evening was just how hot and packed it was. It’s hard to really break loose when you’re dripping with sweat and surrounded by people 2 feet in every direction. Other notable parts of the night: there was this short foreign guy who was obviously high on something extra, who kept grabbing me and trying to get me to kiss him. Weird! No thank you guy…I was also entertained when standing in line for the bathroom with Lydia. Her phone had been stepped on earlier in the day, her screen was cracked and the image was quite reminiscent of female nether-regions...we had fun stroking the image and generally being obscene…
Sunday Night: Went to Graham & Penny’s for sushi night. The food was incredible!! I love sushi and was quite pleasantly surprised by the quality and the quantity available. Bravo Penny! The wasabi was a little strong, but it was entertaining to watch everybody have the moment of shock as they ate it. I talked to Marcine for a long time, whom I adore. I need to make a point to hang out with her more often. Highlight of the evening, discussion wise, was two of the neighbors who are now married telling their “how we met” story, which included a man hammering nails through his nose and a *severely bulging* shoulder blade…perhaps most endearing was another neighbor who kept asking “and then what happened”, digging for every little detail including who and how making out was initiated…It’s hard to portray the humor of the whole scene, but I found it quite charming.
All in all, a good weekend. Wish I had another day to recuperate and catch up on errands and housework, but what’s a party girl to do?
