So my birthday turned out to be pretty awesome. WAY better than I was expecting. I'm not one to announce my birthday to people because I feel awkward about doing so, like there's this expectation for a big to-do or response, and I don't want to be that girl, so I didn't really say anything to anyone this year.
But the "Happy Birthdays" started out with a text message sent at 6:30amPST (it was from Georgia, so for Ms. L it was already 9:30am) and continued throughout the day. I got a cake and flowers and cards from work (and a promise that we'll go out to lunch next week when schedules permit), I got calls throughout the day, emails, friendster messages and even a shout out on LJ. It feels like every possible format for communicating has been used. Unfortunately for the friend using Morse code, it just sounds like annoying tapping. Sorry! But seriously, to all my awesome friends: THANK YOU. I was/am very touched by the thoughtfulness. I'm going to try REALLY hard to remember everyone else’s birthday from now on. ;)
As for activities, went to Mel's Diner for dinner with my mom and got embarrassed with the cake and the singing. Just so everyone knows, they give you a Free T-Shirt and some balloons too, who knew? Then we went to see a free screening of the documentary "The U.S. vs. John Lennon" which was pretty good, albeit disturbing in some of its implications (aren't they always?). Picked up some raw fish salads from Sam Wo's in Chinatown (don't knock it until you try it -- they're delicious!). Then to end the night I went to Jeremy's and we had a little party. Lots of drinking, smoking and games. We made a little too much noise for the upstairs neighbor, but it was well worth it.
The day couldn't have been better. Still basking in the glow.
Love and hugs to all my folks.
