So, it's a good thing that just about all the folx out there who read this know where I work, and that there's all of about ten of you, because I'm about to post the kind of thing that's gotten people fired recently.

This morning, I was reading a popular dork news site, like I often do, and I decided to open a link to website whose URL contained a naughty word. Lo and behold! I was blocked by some internal mechanism! Now this is new to me, and bad news for us since we spend a significant chunk of our time downloading big-ass Linux ISOs for testing. But, honestly, I wasn't going to sweat it to heavily. Well, come afternoon time, as the day is winding down, we decided to investigate a little further. Long story short, we dug up the site of the company that produces the "security appliance" that's being run by the guys on high. I poked into their features page, found the "Surf Protection" page, and now, check out how exhaustive these thought police are:

Comprehensive Coverage

XXXXX's Surf Protection utilizes a database of 60 million categorized
web sites maintained by XXXXX. This is the largest database available
for any commercial URL filtering system.Web pages are analyzed using sophisticated classification techniques
such as:

Text Classification. Web pages
are rated using factors such as the frequency of word
occurrences and word combinations.

Optical Character Recognition. Text on images is
captured and analyzed.

Visual Object Recognition.
Symbols, logos, and trademarks are used to categorize web sites.

Porn Detection. Flesh tone images and face
recognition are used to identify pictures with high
concentrations of non-facial flesh.

Similarity Comparison. Images
are compared with similar images from already classified web
sites.

Definition: Overkill.

*fumes*

Optical Character Recognition? Flesh Tone and Face Matching?!? OMGWTFBBQ?!?

Go here, right now.
