Just arrived in PDX this morning via Greyhound from Ukiah, which I reached by hitching from Santa Rosa, to which I took a bus after missing the SFO->PDX Greyhound. A bit of a slog, but no regrets. I'd rather have said goodbye to San Francisco the way I did than have got that bus on time, if that were the choice.
And it worked out for the best that I didn't manage to thumb it all the way to Portland, since I got to spend a very refreshing evening at my Aunt M's very quiet house in the Northern California hills.
Spent the end of my San Francisco time helping in the construction of two monstrous steel statues (read 20 and 35 feet tall, 4 and 12 tons each, respectively) with some of the freakiest people I've ever met. I got a two minute lesson in the use of a plasma cutter and next thing I know I'm slicing seven-foot lengths of chain to be used as hair.
As a direct result, I'm going to Burning Man. I only did some welding, some cutting, and some general grunt work, but I cannot pass up the opportunity to see the final product, which will involve dozens of fuel lines and another twenty or so tons of conrete.
That was three days worth. The next three days were spent preparing last-minute-like for desert camping and keeping company with one of the most exciting and beautiful individuals I've ever met, period. My faith in the possibilities for good things and good people continue to grow exponentially, and you've got a lot to do with that. Thank you, for everything.
Now, let's hope I Xris actually picks up his damned phone so I have somewhere to stay until my ride leaves for Black Rock City.
