We're in trouble

Serious cat trouble.

Our "scaredy" cat, Trudy, has decided that she isn't so scared after all. Specifically, she's not at all scared of going outside. Last week, I went outside to water the plants that were wilting from the heat. Thinking that Trudy would *never* go outside without peering cautiously for several minutes by which time I would have seen her and scared her back inside, I left the door open. What I failed to realize is that there was some spare construction material leaned up next to the door, creating the perfect place for "The Hider" to hide. Which is what I'm sure happened. She must have dashed out behind that stuff, and I didn't see her. Because when, several hours later, I decided that I'd better check outside "just in case," there she was. Outside. And completely unfazed. When I called her back in, she gave me a look that distinctly said "Ok. If you say so, but I don't see what the big deal is."  She's clearly been interested in heading back out, but I'm better at guarding the door now that I know she's a danger.

Last night? She jumped out an open window. Ok, so it wasn't very far off the ground. But still. This is not good. Plus, it's really freaking out her sister, who had a much more traumatic outdoors experience several years ago.

At least they haven't rediscovered the basement. Yet.
