Billy was out for a run, the exercise keeping him warm despite the chill. He spotted Dr. Covington and decided to risk the possible damage to his sanity by talking to her.

"Morning!" he called.

"Hey, kid," Janice called back, waving her cigar at him. With the prospect of a dig coming up very soon, she was in a pretty friendly mood. Might as well enjoy that while she could -- it was going to be back to the backstabbing and suspicion of her real line of work as soon as she stepped through that portal. "Enjoying your break?"

Janice nodded and took a pull from the bottle. "Had an offer come up, a chance to go to India. We've been trying to get this opening for years, since there's supposed to be a Xena Scroll there. Now that I've got it, no way in hell am I turning it down."

"Oh yeah no way you can pass that up. If you find it maybe you could come back and tell us what Xena invented did next."

"Hell, kid, if this goes well I could have a year's worth of teaching out of it," Janice grinned. "So wish me luck."

"Good luck. Oh, and, at the beginning of the semester, you told us to speculate on how Xena and Gabrielle got around so fast. It's fairly simple I think. Gabby just didn't write about the travel, so it just seemed like they were getting there really quickly."

Janice stared at him for a moment, wondering why this never occurred to fandom looking gobsmacked. "You know, you could be right about that. I usually think she would have gone on for unnecessary pages and pages about the travel, but maybe it wasn't interesting enough for her."

"You think she had time to write about the adventures while they were happening? All that travel time I bet gave her plenty of composong time."

Double take time.

"Preciate it. It was a pleasure taking your class Doc. Good thing for Gabrielle though, otherwise, maybe no one would ever have heard of Xena."

"Yeah," Janice said slowly. She still had a hard time softening up toward her ancestor, but somehow when one of your students pointed out something like this, it was maybe even more effective than having Xena herself say it. "I guess we really owe her that."

She puffed on the cigar a few more times, then looked at him and nodded. "Look out for the archaeology club for me, will ya?"
