I couldn't help listening to other conversations though...[Cue a slight blush as he gets more embarrassed.] The Doctor was discussing that it might have to do with a time oriented experiment. That could work as well, though I'm not familiar with alternate dimensions or time.

If not an accident, then I don't think that Ganymede knew what was going to happen, maybe the other two did.

We don't even know if the other two wanted whatever-it-was to be tested. That last message sounded like Ganymede started doing things on his own. Maybe the extra defenses were because they anticipated the potential of something like this, but it actually happened by accident just because the captain tried to take matters into his own hands?
