So, I got bit by a concept bug, hard, last night. It lives at the intersection of the Glen Cook Dread Empire novels that I'm reading collections of, and some particular implementation thoughts from Spirit of the Century (not aspects -- something else ( Read more... )

I think his Garret PI novels would be interesting as RPGs using an SOTC base as well. Read any of them?

Yeah, or maybe the Dresden Files RPG once its done (which is of course based on SOTC, so I'm not disagreeing with your idea).

There's actually a lot more use of magic by major characters in the Dresdenverse than in the Garretverse. SOTC might work fine, where as DFRGP might have more magic than is needed.

Ah, ok. I don't actually know the Dresden material, I was just thinking, "Private detective in a fantasy world."

Garrett: Normal human PI in a fantastically varied fantasy-world city.

Dresden: Magical human PI in a fantastically varied modern world. :)

I've read all or nearly all of them. Other than wanting to kill him for the one with the "sky-elves", I've loved them (though I do think he meandered a bit much in the latest).

I found myself wondering if there wasn't a case of "Bulletproof Monk" Syndrome in the Sky Elves one myself.

You seen the movie? Starts out interesting, decent story, cool action, and then *wham* evil nazi hydro powered brain sucking machines, acting gos to hell, cinematography starts sucking, and you want to go back and demand a refund for all the IQ points you lost.

My theory is that the movie started with two film crews. One was decent, and the other was comprised of lovecraftian degenerate inbred cannibals. Halfway through the filming a lunch break was called, and the cannibals ate the first crew and then took over filming.
