That thread

Feb 23, 2007 20:32

That thread over on peaseblossom's journal got a little crazy. Unfairly, I think on both sides. And far be it from me to continue to bust on one of the wee faerie folk from the Bard's midsummer dream ( Read more... )

Oh, on the contrary, I think I was clear about six or seven times.

Granted, that's six or seven out of, what, fifty, or sixty comments, at least? So you'd have to do some pretty dedicated digging and defeat LJ's confounded desire to collapse threads to find me saying it. Over and over. :)

I have to say that I think he conceded to several of her points repeatedly. I think people just got caught up in the whole thing and somehow managed to miss them.

I just finished my madly long response to that debate, as well.

I had to make an entry of it. It was too long, otherwise.

Regarding the thread, for whatever it's worth as heated as you got I thought you kept your head better than I would have.

Regarding your latest post, I noticed this little gem, like a flower rising from bombed-out rubble:

Claire Holloway would have played a counterpoint to the Grey Ghost, and if I could take some of the money from SOTC's success and give it to my past-self in order to get her in there, yakking it up with her deceased side-kick, the Ghost of Edgar Allen Poe, shooting up Confederate War Zombies with her Aetheric Pistol, investigating strange crimes in exotic locales, and poking at things with odd Weird Science gizmos.

Way to bring the awesome, dude. Especially the Confederate War Zombies. I'm snagging this idea; they'll be making an appearance in my game, and soon :D .

And feel free to un-screen this, if you like.

Claire was full of great stuff. We just couldn't get all the scenes illustrated we wanted to, and as such she got left on the cutting-room floor.

If I can give any advice at all regarding attacks against one's work, that advice is simply, "Correct factual errors only. Leave opinion and emotion at the door."

I have some experience in matters such as this. ;)

Yeah. I'm supposed to too. Unfortunately, it tends to work only when I don't have much of an opinion (not disrespect; just "don't have much of an opinion of") of the person with the opinion. People whose opinion I think strongly matters? I get emotional. Which should have been my warning sign to stay the fuck away. I was not smart today.

Everyone stumbles, man. I'm sorry you had a not-smart day today.

Me too, as it turns out. Thanks for the advice, regardless.

I'm not going to go near the whole argument about passive vs aggressive posturing, but I do want to comment on the very notion of counting photos and comparing gender representation.

"But, not only are there more illustrations of men, at a rate of nearly three to one..."The problem with this is that there's ultimately no way to make everyone happy when you start to really worry about proper balance. What she says is something I've heard a lot in other media ( ... )

I still wish we could've budgeted for Claire Holloway. I'm just sayin'. 75% of today wouldn't have happened.

I'm afraid I disagree with that. Claire might've helped, but from reading what peaseblossom has written, I don't think it would've prevented most of what she wrote. She was looking for sexism. She found sexism. She is completely inflexible in her arguments; she is self-superior and arrogant.

She claims she's trying to help. But the rest of her words disagree with that claim.
