So my check engine light came on this weekend...
I took it in for diagnostics and they are telling me the ignition coil is barely starting to go. They quoted me $270 for a Bosch coil and 0.7 hours of labor.
Autozone has Duralast coils for $191.
Does anyone really have an opinion on which brand of coil I should get? Money is pretty tight. Duralast is supposed to be a good name for batteries, but I know nothing about ignition coils. The mechanic was telling me he likes to stick with the German parts for customer satisfaction. But hey, the amount of troubles I've had with a German car thus far, I'm not sold that German is better and therefore worth $80 more.
Has anyone replaced the coils themselves? The mechanic says it's not difficult. We've changed the brakes and the oil before, is it much harder than that? My time is pretty tight too.
Thanks for the advice!
