99 vw bug headlight

a couple days ago, my dad (who has never owned a foreign car in his life up until he helped my buy my bug) attempted to change my driver's side daytime running light. he'd never done anything like it before and i have been told by another bug owner (who takes hers into a shop) that they ahve to take the whole front bumper off.

we found instructions online and followed them the best we could. we removed the battery, popped the headlight out, disconnected the electricity, removed the wire that holds the bulb, put in the light and did everything in reverse the put her back together.

i turned on the car, and nothing.

any suggesetions?
