This is absolutely fascinating to me.
My nana's friend two houses over told her how he just a few moments ago went to put a cup of water in the microwave to boil. He noticed a fly in the microwave and continued to set the microwave for two minutes, hoping to see the fly explode or something.
After the two minutes was up the water had boiled, but upon opening the door the fly flew out completely unharmed.
I looked up possible explanation and the only sound reasoning I came up with is that the microwave, once turned on, has varying energy densities in its chamber. The fly (and many other small insects) has a sense for this, and manages to keep itself in the lowest energy density in the microwave, thereby escaping a rather crispy fate.
Is it weird that I kind of want to experiment with this?
