(2012) Train Brain Express A.KA. Take the 'A' Train (僕達急行~A列車で行こうA)
Train Brain Express A.KA. Take the 'A' Train (僕達急行~A列車で行こうA) is about Komachi Kei (
Matsuyama Kenichi) who works for a big company in a densely populated area and Kotama Kenta (
Nagayama Eita) who works for his family's iron foundry business, which is in crisis. Both men are railroad otakus (avid fans of trains) and meet while riding on the same train... (©mydramalist).
Now the premise is simple and for the most part it is about trains and their love of them. Let me preface this by saying that I love the acting style of both actors, Kenichi came to my attention when I saw him in
Sexy Voice and Robo and Eita in
Water Boys and both actors have had great roles since then with great renown.
With that said, the movie is campy, boring, and nonsensical.
(Spoilers Ahead)
The movie felt like the director just wanted to get the movie done and anything was ok. There was a horrible scene using only one camera, admittedly the room was small and full of trains, and the actors had to WAIT for the camera to pan to them to say their lines causing a delay that is palpable.
From one scene to the next the panning causes a delay in dialogue that is horrible
Also at one point in the movie, two characters are running along a deserted path and suddenly stop for coffee which appears out of nowhere surprising and confusing Komachi Kei which is both campy and nonsensical.
Surprised and Confused Komachi Kei when coffee suddenly appears out of nowhere
Honestly, the only thing that could have made the movie good, inclusive of all the stuff mentioned above, was if they had made the movie into a BL. The chemistry between the two lead characters was obvious. In all of their interactions, they were just a step away from declaring their love for each other. Sure, it could be a bromance, but it was played too far into the BL arena with the longing looks and strong chemistry.
Eye banging eachother, and being cuddly
Overall, the movie was definitely not the best but is still worth a watch if you like Matsuyama Kenichi and Eita. I would not be keeping it in my library, but it would be a good B-movie for anyone looking for randomness, campiness, and jokes that never really hit well. In closing, I watched it for the actors but the content was lacking.
