Music Meme; Shutterbox responses

Feb 13, 2008 21:00

Original meme:
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them~.

I decide to just set my iTunes library to random and wrote for whatever series caught my fancy with each new song. Genres vary, all are unedited so if you see any mistakes please point them out. I did 33 in total, 9 wound up being for Shutterbox.

the brilliant green - “Ash Like Snow”

Flying with AJ was always a breath-taking experience. Megan never got tired of the thrill that ran down her spine, into every pore of her body, making her heart race. And now that she could teleport it was just another heightening of memories forming with him. Memories she cherished.

Memories that he would forget as soon as he died once more.

But maybe these would stay fresh every time he returned to Merridiah. She was the anchor, after all. There’d be history written down with her name in it. Just as her and Dane’s children had remembered her, she hoped that the students would.

The waves were crashing along the beach as Aj crouched into the sand, that playful (irresponsible smile) tugging on his lips. “Shall we, gorgeous?” (It came out so naturally-)

Her heart fluttered and she wrapped her arms around him even tighter. “Yes.”

And then they were off in the air, daring her borrowed life and his undead one, tempting the Fates by flowing over the Sea of Somnifery.

But he wouldn’t let her drop, and Dane couldn’t reach them here.

Here where their love was free from all.

Ewan McGregor and Alessandro Safina - “Your Song”
word count: 108

Megan felt her cheeks burning hotter as the strains of the piano’s notes reached her ears. It was one of the pieces she had mused. One of her last assignments at Merridiah. It was the cheesiest thing she had ever worked on, and hearing it in the conscious world was embarrassing. But it would last, if popular culture had anything to say about it.

And maybe if it was around years from now, everytime AJ was alive he would have a chance to hear it. And maybe something within him would remember the time they had spent together. She hoped he would, and she hoped they’d meet again.

Fahrenheit - “Finding Happiness for You”
word count: 142

The roses were in full bloom, and she breathed in deeply. Damien watched her, his sharp eyes taking in her every movement. Adrien was off doing something responsible in time for once and he had not wanted to turn the girl away from his home at that news. “Would you like me to call a gardener?” he asked her.

She jumped at his voice, sweeter and softer than she was used to. “No, thank you, though. Her fingers slid against a deep red petal, contradicting her words. He stepped over to her side and reached for the stem, breaking it cleaning and handing the perfect blossom to her.

“A lovely flower for a lovely girl,” he offered smoothly. She turned a shade that rivaled the flower’s.

“Thank you,” she replied demurely, lowering her eyes as she accepted it, fingers brushing against his.

Rawlins Cross - “The Wedding Gift”
word count: 121

The birds were singing in the sunshower. As the guests made their way onto the porch Megan felt a hand touch her elbow. Turning she saw Adrien at her side. “Hey there, gorgeous.”

Her chest tightened. “You musn’t say such things anymore, Adrien.”

His eyes, already so different from their usual cheer grew darker, wetter. “That was the last time, I promise. I wanted to give you something. Consider it an early gift for your engagement.”

He pulled out a small frame with a bright green four-leaf clover pressed between the backing and the glass. “For luck and happiness, direct from Ireland,” he smiled. It wasn’t nearly as happy as he was capable of, but he faked it well enough.

“Adrien-”

Jimmy Shand - “Dark Island”

AJ sighed deeply. Around him the beebos stopped their mirthful play and watched his mood fall, wide-eyed and knowing. It was time to return. “I’m sorry,” he told them, folding the letter up and tucking it into his shirt pocket. The smallest beebo hopped onto his foot, pawing at his pant leg. He knelt down and rested his large hand on its head. “I’ll try and visit you within the week. I’ll bring more books, I promise.” He gave the other seven a stroke or a path before rising. “And stories, too. From what the world was like this last time, before I forget.”

The student who had delivered the note watched in confusion.

Rie fu - “Home”
word count: 134

It was all just as she had left it. All the things Thom had “rescued” to Merridiah at AJ’s request had returned, and surprisingly her mother hadn’t decided to rearrange her furniture or completely redecorate in her abscence.

But it was different. Dagny was truly dead. There’d be no more attendnig sci-fi conventions with her, no more enthusiastic discussions on the latest fantasy novel one of them found. Her best friend since childhood was gone.

AJ wouldn’t reincarnate for a couple of years he had said. And even if they would be lucky enough to be together that time, she’d be so much older, and as always, he wouldn’t live past his eighteenth birthday. She opened her toy chest and saw the letter in her favorite bear’s arms. It was from him.

Newfie - Accordian music

Adrien smiled as he milled around the fairground, enjoying the cool early Spring weather. The games going on around him had drawn spectators from all over the country, and the scent of food was in the air as music drifted.

“Excuse me, lad,” a woman called to him with a camera. Tourist.

“What can I do for you?” he asked making his brogh more apparent.

“Lift your skirt for me?”

Fahrenheit - “Please Leave Me Before I Regret”
word count: 122

Megan was bustling back and forth between the room, directing the children and the maids helping them to pack carefully, making sure they had enough for the voyage. The front door open and closed with a slam. Heavy footsteps charged up the staircase. Hannah looked to her with fearful eyes. “Mother...”

“Hurry to your room, dear, and don’t worry,” Megan assured her, brushing away a lock of her daughter’s hair.

They stepped into the hall only to see the wrong Crandall.

“Adrien...” Megan looked behind him. “What’s going on?”

“Are you really going?” he asked her urgently.

Megan clasped her daughter’s hand. “We have to.”

“But... to America?”

“Your brother won’t follow us there. I... I cannot do this anymore.”

Blue October - “X-Amount of Words”
word count: 169

She didn’t need to say anything to those who gossiped about her family. It was difficult times, and she found herself going out less and less often, devoting herself to the children. Damien was home infrequently and even when he was words were sparse between them. Those times he would come home with another child she never asked him for the details. She would crouch down to the child’s level if they were old enough and ask them their name with a warm smile. If they were still too young to speak her husband would tell her and leave the child in her arms.

She had no way of knowing what their previous situations had been, so she made it her mission to give them love. Her own children understood, wise beyond their years and she tried to keep their burden light, always doing more for them all than society deemed appropriate.

So when Megan returned to them they wanted to sing out their adoration, but mother had forgotten.
