There are people that always seem to be "ahead of the curve." You know the type -- the people that always seem to know the latest catch-phrase before you or your friends ever catch wind of it, or are already showing off the latest trend, whatever the case may be.

Always knowing what's popular before, it seems, there are enough people to make it popular to begin with, strikes me as a bit odd.

Do these people move into a new area of fashion and trend, specifically for people like themselves? Or are they still on the same "popularity" curve, just too far ahead of it for most people to understand?

Maybe I haven't expressed my exact thoughts clearly enough, but it seems odd to me for someone to call a person who is so far ahead of the curve that by the time the things they were involved with actually become popular they've already moved onto something else someone who is on the same plane as themselves.

Is there a particular interest or attraction to being "the first" to adopt something?

And if there is a reward for being ahead of the curve of adoption/popularity, where does the reward come from? From within--simple self satisfaction? Or are there other "early adopters" who share revel in their somewhat elite status?

The latter begs the question, again, of if they are even in the same popularity order.

Or maybe I should just not care about it, because it's really not that important.

The only thing that bugs me is I have dozens of questions like this pop into my head on a daily basis, and no one to answer them.

Time to finish my programming homework and then "relax" a bit. ;-)
