Hey! We went to NYC!
Now we're back!
w00t!

Ahem.

We caught a train from 30th street station at 7:00 am and arrived in Penn Station NYC by about 8:30. (after some particularly shitty traffic made us closer to missing the train than I would have liked) It was cold, but the sun was out. We walked to our hotel, which was very nice actually; small room, king bed, private bathroom, a desk, and a nice little flat panel tv.

There was a bakery we had heard about that makes massive chocolate chip cookies we wanted to go to. Since it was somewhat mild out, we decided to walk...even though it was about 40 blocks north of where we were. So we said fuck it and started on our hike. So from west 36th street, we ventured up 10th ave until it became Amsterdam ave, eventually turning onto west 74th. it wasn't the most visually exciting walk through new york, but we got to take in the city none the less. We got our cookies...and they were really good. Holy shit they were good. Then we ate breakfast at a place called Utopia, on Amsterdam between 72nd and 73rd. Fastest service ever at a dinner.

We had a lot of time to kill before we could check into our hotel yet, so decided to walk to our next destination- the Metropolitan Museum of art. We cut through central park (which took forever) but we definitely enjoyed the walk through the park. Got to the museum, and we got through about half of it...which is quite a bit actually. We got to see something I was really looking forward to seeing, Damien Hirst's The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living (overrated, but still really cool), along with plenty of other great art. Actually, the museum hadn't seemed to have changed much since I was there with Tyler all those years ago.

With all of this walking, we were completely wiped out, went back to hotel and became vegetables for a couple hours. We ordered some organic Burger food (eh) and planned to head out and end enjoy some nightlife, even if there wasn't any life left in us. It turns out that it unexpectedly started a mixture of rain/sleet/snowing that hindered us from walking too far, and we didn't want to pay for a cab ride uptown, so we settled down in a bar aply named...wait for it...Why Not?. We had a few drinks, munched on chips and pretzels, did some people watching, and eventually made our way home...singing tom waits' "Rains on Me" rather loudly in the middle of the downpouring night.

Next morning, we got up and headed out to breakfast (The Starlight dinner, I think) then down to the Ferry station. We caught the ferry to the Statue of Liberty (after going through tight security) and took a couple pictures. Then we caught a ferry to Ellis island. We were in the middle of looking up manifests with our ancestors when we had to clear out of the place because there was a suspicious bag left sitting in the middle of the room with no one to claim it. Ah...life in post-9-11 America. Needless to say, we didn't stick around. We caught the next ferry back home. Then we went to the village, walked around, stopped in a couple record stores, boutiques, etc. Nothing mindblowing, but cool anyway. We came to rest at some tiny-ass coffee house that was packed when we got there. Somehow they seated us and ended up serving us some so-so hot beverages and only slightly good pastries. After squeezing ourselves out of that particular pretentiousness, we grabbed a six pack and retired to the hotel to drink beer and order a pizza. (beer was fine, pizza was crap. Just ask me how to open a beer bottle using only a piece of paper sometime)

Last day, we slept in big time, as all of the walking was taking it's toll. We went back to the bakery to get cookies to bring home. Then back to Utopia...service was not so good this time. Then we went to st. marks place...checked out Trash and Vaudeville, couple more record stores, etc. We walked all afternoon, through soho and some of chinatown (I think) and then up Broadway back towards mid town (I think). We stopped at some goofy ass american dinner place with weird lingo on the menu and had so-so food. Caught a cab to Penn Station (best cab ride ever...the dude was insane!) and caught our train home.

The end.
