And the songs you sing are the songs you've sung
Pairing: Dakin/Irwin
Rating: teen and up
Word Count: 6800 words
Warnings: references to former (canon) student/teacher almost-relationship; historical metaphor and references to the 1947 Partition of India and Pakistan
Notes: I originally intended this to be a direct sequel to
Hope; feathers, but I think it can stand alone fairly well too? They both take place in 1997, fourteen years after THB movie canon. Written for my winning bidder, , who asked for Dakin/Irwin future fic with Irwin fully recovered from the accident, and for vaguely domestic fic with the couple trying to make it work in the long run.
Title is of course from “Voices Against England In The Night” by Stevie Smith (of “Waving Not Drowning” fame, Lockwood is repeating in my head). Thanks to
glass_moment,
slylilgoblin,
kaydeefalls, and
mrinalinee for amazing help and beta work. Plus, more extensive author's notes
here.
Summary: “Come on,” says Dakin, smirking. “You can expose facts that aren’t generally taught in the history classes, provide a different perspective. We all know how much you love that.”
