DIY fest/Bus on Fire/Sigur Ros

It's been a busy week. It's only Wednesday.

Sunday I headed out to the last day of the Ferndale DIY fest. I accidently went to the funky art fair on 9 mile instead. It sucked. You know how there's one art fair traveling all over the world to streets everywhere? Over priced bad craft store bullshit and bad fried food. That was the one on 9 mile. We found where DIY was after a bit. Right between the WAB and the Emory. How could I not find that?!?!?! Anyways, it was great! Good food, and better beverages from local fair. There where many cool crafts and clothing. Even a skate shop had a booth. I bought a Loggins and Messina notebook made from a record, that renegade craft made. It's sweet. I have a Prince one that Ber got me last X-mas. The Pop Project where great! They even did songs from the TGIF record. They are a band that's so over the top that it makes you laugh until you realize that the song writing and vocal harmonies are unbelievable genius. Their album, "Stars of Stage and Screen", is no different. Forget everything you know about indie rock. It's everything it's not, while leading the way all at once. A record that no doubt took many months to make. Have a listen you'll know what I'm saying. Deastro played next. While I haven't been as much of a fan of him with a band as I was when he was a one man band, it seems they've finally got it. His masterpiece "The Shaded Forest" has not been done justice since he started performing it with a band. That night it finally sounded the way it should. As did the rest of the set. He captivated the crowd with his enthusiasm and energy. By the time they were done, everyone had had it transfered to them. He spoke about how great this was, that this was being put on and a success. He also spoke of how proud he was of Detroit music, and how proud he was of his city in spite of all others say and see. In a city that hates people who care, I couldn't have said it better.

Maybe someone listened. I sure did.

On Monday while walking to the WAB, I saw a bus catch on fire. I heard a giant "POP", and then saw what looked like a giant torch, ignite from the back end of the torch. Alas , by the time I was able to get my phone for a pic, it was out and everyone had exited safely. Some cops eating in the diner came out to investigate.

Yesterday I saw Sigur Ros at the State Theater (Filmore). It was beautiful and amazing. The roots of their songs are so simple, it's just the manor in which they make them that is so unconventional that delivers such a unique sound. They played to of my favorite songs back to back. In spite of it being a big show at a venue I would normally not choose to see, the crowd was for the most part not bad. There were a few people yelling whooooo during quiet parts. I just don't get how that's fun for someone. To each his or her own. Either way it was all I had hoped and more. Visually stunning as well with great lighting, a screen with images that really added and an explosion of confetti at the end. I usually don't care about that type of shit, but it really seemed to add to their show. Brilliant.

This weekend I see My Bloody Valentine in Chicago.

It's still only Wednesday.
