Since I am a lazy ass, it took me awhile to finally write down my thoughts about the great time I had at the Incubus Phoenix concert, and my meet and greet experience. So here it is, kind of long.
Let’s see, where do I start.
Well the drive to Phoenix was six hours and we barely made to the hotel around 5:40pm. We had to be at the arena at 6:00pm. So yeah we were in a rush. We headed downstairs and I decided to take my digital camera, luckily I stuck my camera between my legs while tying the loop to my belt, so hopefully security wouldn’t be feeling my crotch. We were going to walk to the arena but they had one of those bike taxis, so we hopped on one of those and got there much faster.
We got to the arena and I got through security but barely, that fucker made me empty my pockets and was feeling me up. My brother in law wasn’t so lucky, the camera my sister made him hold was found and they made him empty the film out, which had vacation pics on it. But thankfully they let him in. So we wait around for awhile and after about ten minutes Jake, I believe his name was gathers the group and we head backstage. I have never seen backstage of any arena before, it was cool. We walked the same route Incubus was going to walk while going on stage. We head back into this room, and actually it was the practice court of the Phoenix Suns, which was pretty damn cool.
Anticipation, I was nervous and not nervous at the same time. I was just freaking excited. They grouped us and guess who got first in line, yep me. I thought it was kind of cool, but I put my nephew in front of me so he could go first. Then came the moment, they walked down the stairs to the sounds of clapping and cheering. They looked like the Brady Bunch coming downstairs, haha. They took their seats and so began the meet and greet.
There was a stack of cards on the table for us to pick up one and have them sign. So I grabbed mine and handed it Mikey. I just went with it. I shook his hand and he asked my name, then I asked him when the next Time Lapse album was coming out. He said sometime next year. Then I asked him if he could sign my Time Lapse cd, and he said sure and did.
Next up was Kilmore, he asked my name and I introduced myself. I noticed his eye. I didn’t know what to say so I said what any normal person would say. I told him I also had a lazy eye, which I do. I still can’t believe I said that. He was so damn cool about it; he said he has had four surgeries on his eye. He said he is not self conscience anymore, it just gets bad when he is tired and stuff. I told him I was born cross-eyed and had a surgery too, which I did, he said he was born cross-eyed too.
Next up was Brandon. I shook his hand and he asked my name, I introduced myself. I didn’t know what to say either so I told him his book was very beautiful. I asked him if he could sign my book. I also asked him why he never did a book signing in California. He said it was because of his accident. I said oh yeah the leg thing. He said yep, and I told him well it’s all healed now so that is good, laughed and moved on.
Next up was Ben. I shook his hand and introduced myself. I told him that the division group was amazing and he said thanks and cool, I said "roses" was a great song. Then I asked him if he could sign my division group ep, and he did. He signed it differently than his previous sig which was damn cool.
Next up was Jose. I shook his hand and introduced myself. I told him that Mikey said there might be a time lapse album next year sometime and Jose just said yeah. Signed the card then I asked if he could sign my Time Lapse cd and he did. I said thanks and left. Jose seemed a bit off and quiet, he might have been high or tired
So we lined up for the photo. We were in group number two. We waited for about a half hour for the rest of the line to finish up the signing. After they were done, the guys messed around on the court. Brandon tried to reach the basketball hoop, and offered to pick up Mikey so he could reach it. Then Ben offered to body slam Mikey into a pile of foam mats, and he did. It was pretty damn funny.
Then it was time for the picture. I just casually walked up right next to Brandon and Ben. So did my sister. She was on one side of Brandon and I was on the other. I was also next to Ben. Kick ass placement. Brandon was telling Mikey they should have the concert in the gym, and they laughed about it. I said the acoustics in there would be terrible, Brandon said yeah, we have played in many before and the sound sucks. And then he pointed out the PA system to me.
Then the pics were taken. It was time to say goodbye, so Brandon sticks out his hand and I say how about a hug man? And he smiles and says alright, so I hugged him. Then went to Ben and he sticks out his hand, and I say the same thing and hug him. I also told him I can’t wait for his solo album, which I can’t, he said alright man, cool, thanks. Then went to Jose and asked for the hug, and he seemed much more upbeat. He told me thanks for coming and take care. Then I went to Mikey and yep, hugged him too. I told him I couldn’t wait to hear the new Time Lapse. Then I went to Kilmore and of course hugged him too, I could feel his dreadlocks, like omgzzzz, haha.
Then we were escorted to our seats. The Walkmen came out and played. I thought they were decent but no one was into it. Some people were even yelling out You Suck! Which is so fucking rude. I could tell the singer was looking out in the audience to connect with someone. But the audience sucked. I was moving my head along with the music to show my support, and of course clapped after every song. Some people don’t have fucking manners and are so rude. If someone is on stage working their asses off to entertain you than that deserves some kind of respect.
Then after that we waited for awhile. Incubus finally came out and kicked ass. When the show started I undid my belt and pants, so I could whip it out, my camera. I wonder if anyone noticed my doing it. I was taking pics with my flash off but none of them were coming out good, so towards the end I used my flash and got some great pics of the band. The performance itself in my opinion had less energy than Vegas. But it still was awesome. Towards the middle of the concert the energy picked up, right about when Megalomaniac kicked in. For the encore Brandon mentioned he played Que Pasara the night before but he wasn’t going to play it for us, that ass. If I meet him again I will make him sing it there and then, heh. For the closer they played Leech which was a damn good song to close the show with. “The rides over”... great song to end with. Something different then the Vegas show, which is good.
So the show ends and you see all the hot beautiful people with backstage passes going backstage, of course I leave. We walked back to the hotel and showered and went to sleep and just reliving the experience in my head over and over, also hearing ringing in my ears.
Overall it was a great experience that exceeded my expectations in everyway. The guys were damn cool and nice. They didn’t act like “rock stars” or were too good for anyone. I think of Incubus different now that I met them. In a good way. You know, it like meeting someone on tv then watching them and saying I met them. It kind of feels like you know them, but you don’t really “know” them. As you can read I suck at explaining. Well that is the experience, and it kicked ass.
Here is the group photo and the items I got signed.
From top left to right that is my nephew, brother in law, Ben, Me, Brandon, and my sister.
