I DID find a green team for you, mate.

Tokyo Verdy 1969Formed by the company that owns the Yomiuri Giants, Verdy were really good, and then got really bad. Still, they are the only club team I could find with green kit. Well, okay, MAJOR team with green kit. There is, apparently, a Chinese C-league team named Greentown, but the only reason I ( Read more... )

Their 2001 kit--this gorgeous emerald Nike t-shirt style number with Konami as the front sponsor--has been at the top of my jersey collection want list for years.

Still, they are the only club team I could find with green kit. Well, okay, MAJOR team with green kit.

We're not counting old Rapids kits, then? Even last year they had a green third.

Yowch.

I had no idea the Rapids had a green third kit. Shows you how much I follow teams other than FC Dallas (and them not much).

Well that's good to know.

snaketao is a huge fan of the color green.

Where do you go for older kit? I try Subside when I can, but they don't carry Kawasaki Frontale kit, and they're my J1 team. Ebay never has anything, and the American ex-pat in Japan who's supposed to pick me up a shirt kinda flaked.

I am also a huge fan of the color green--senior prom my mom and I wound up driving two hours away to get a dress that was green because it wasn't the "in" color that year. Anyway, the last time I saw the Verdy kit in question was on Yahoo Japan auctions ages ago. If your buying connection over there is flaky, you'll need to use a proxy service like Rinkya to buy something. I have no idea how frequently J-League gear is bootlegged, if that's a concern.

Great looking but hard to find national team kit in green: look for the 04-06 (Total 90 style) Australia away. The Mexico and Morocco ones from that year are almost identical except for piping, the same way the US and Russian ones from that period were.

My current collection, minus the 2002 US home I got last month in LA that needs to be sent in to get Mastroeni on the back, is here, here, here, and here. Next purchase besides an 07 Revs (probably with Dorman on the back) will be the one-off pink USWNT kit they're putting out for Mother's Day.

I whole heartedly support your Friedel/Rovers kit collection. Shame they couldn't get one at home against Leverkeusen.

Well, at least Arsenal lost to PSV so they may rest their starters against us. Since we're at home, and have Gamst back, even if we play "negative" football we should have a decent chance to advance in the FA Cup.

But back to kit - I loved that 03 AMD kit. Subside Sports still has it in stock new - I may have to buy a new one since the AMD logo is starting to crack on mine.

And I really like the way that the Nagoya Grampus Eight home kit from 2004 looks. Though I'm a guy I must say they do have the cutest mascot ever. Whale!

I guess next on my list are: 1970s Dallas Torandos kit, FC Dallas kit, Kawasaki Frontale kit, Dundee United kit (they actually played under the Tornados banner for one weird year in the NASL), either Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates kit once I decide which one I want to support, and Stevanage Borough kit.

I miss Blackburn having both a decent kit manufacturer and a sponsor I wouldn't be embarrassed about wearing. Of course, the Kappa ones are only good if you get a larger size than you usually would--that Feyenoord one (which I got for $12 at Marshall's) is a small and oh man is it snug.

Yanks Abroad seems to sell out of them as soon as they come in, but I've gotta get a Fulham Dempsey jersey just out of principle. (Twelve Americans in the Premiership, but only one of them's ever apologized to me for the outcome of a game). US Soccer can start selling this cycle's GK kits any day now, and while they're at it their store can start charging shipping rates that are grounded in reality.

If money were no object, I'd use the Arsenal jersey I have and start a collection of kits with video game sponsors, because there have been a lot of them. I'm not even that big of a gamer, I just think it's a neat collecting theme.

Actually according to sources on the BRFCS board, we're getting Umbro next year.

For the game theme you might also go with the Chelsea kit from the 80s when they were sponsored by Commodore and Amiga.

Not gaming per se, but still in that realm.

I take it then you have one of the Arsenal Dreamcast ones?

AMD is in Austin and whenever I wear my 03 home kit around I get a lot of "wow, is that the AMD corporate team" questions.

There's that, there's Fiorentina around 97 (I think) with Nintendo, Man City from the EIDOS era, St. Etienne had Dreamcast, Auxerre had PlayStation 2, Cerezo Osaka had Capcom as a back sponsor, the aforementioned Verdy/Konami ones...

I take it then you have one of the Arsenal Dreamcast ones?

Yeah, got it on sale and it's the Seaman one here, which amuses me because Seaman was also a Dreamcast game. The sponsorship is actually how my husband came to follow Arsenal. We got into soccer by being out of work and having nothing to do in the summer of 2002 besides tune in to Univision and see what our Brazilian neighbors kept going on about. So I'm watching, and I start thinking "who's that huge mean mofo the US has in goal, he's phenomenal, what's his day job...where the hell is Blackburn?" Meanwhile, he looks around and thinks "Wow, there's a team sponsored by Dreamcast? I gotta get in on that!" And thus...

AMD ( ... )

Just imagine what would have happened if it had been 2003 and Blackburn had AMD for a sponsor! Your marriage could be stronger than granite!

Alas, you'll have to settle for concrete or maybe limestone. Stupid Arsenal. Rovers should totally defeat them in the FA Cup just for that assault on your marriage.

The funny thing is I've been asked about the AMD thing and had to explain that no, I'm not into homebrew PCs, and in fact am a longtime Mac user.

One of my favorite memories is the day of the 2-0 game at Ewood in 2003 that started the slide that cost Arsenal the title that year--it was on my husband's birthday.

Very nice.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Chelsea. Their fans in Austin have adopted me and give me muscle against the United fans when we play.

I'm actually going to the Dallas Cup with a big group of them. I'm so annoyed though - Blackburn apparently sent their youth squad to it last year and I didn't know. Still, for the cost vs. football, it's a heckuva deal with a lot of good teams.

But yeah - I am a Windows user, and tend to buy AMD procs if I can (though my current laptop is a Core 2 Duo - just better all things considered). [/end geek rant]

Unless they're playing us, I otherwise have no particular beef with Arsenal, and will back them in cup competitions we're not doing. Beyond that I mostly just look out for teams that field Americans.

For some reason among my local soccer buddies there's a disproportionately high number of Newcastle fans. Oh, the hilarity during the Souness days!

There was no greater time to be a Rovers fan than when Newcastle PAID US TO TAKE SOUNESS.

I hear he's trying to buy Wolverhampton. They have, thus far, very correctly denied him.

I know! I remember the day the news broke, the email I sent to my closest Toon Army pal: "Oh, man, long weekend, still wiped out from that WCQ on Saturday, went to check the BBC for news...wait what"

My favorite comment on the situation, which I can never remember the exact source of, was Friedel saying (paraphrased) "he's a great coach until he starts alienating or selling off all your players," which, from a guy who's normally that reserved, professional, and media shy, was brutal.

Yeah.

I kinda sorta want the Condolezza Rice custom Rovers kit if only for the WTF factor. I loved the pics of her accepting it from Hughes with Jack Straw in the background looking pleased as punch and Rice looking "ummmm... wha?"

Maybe if we're lucky we can get Souness sent to Gitmo.
