Egyptian pickles - really sour and salty
Date - more delicious than I recall them being in the past, still not my favourite
Philipino beef thing from hot food section of grocery store - blargh (I think it is just my not liking the dish, more than it's origin)
Fresh squeezed papaya juice - yep, still hate papayas

2 new tries, 2 re-tries today

Just came back from Lulu Hypermarket, as I needed more food and desired a broom, mop and clothes rack. Got all three. <3

So far I feel like this country and job are forcing me to be more social, which is good for me. It's just that being a natural introvert with low levels of iron who hasn't slept well over the past few weeks (as a concequence of bed location, which was just moved last night) - I might be overly tired for the first bit. Why bed location matters...air conditioner at the headboard is never a good idea, sucking in all that cold dry air, chapped lips and throat endlessly parched. Slept much better last night.

Last few days:
Friday: City Centre Mall - Doha, great for a change of scenery, there's an ice rink in the middle, chatted with a cute Tunisian guy and we really clicked. Will keep people posted if anything actually materializes, but at the time being I'm so swamped with settling in/orientation (and he knows as much).

Saturday: Qatar Foundation Clubhouse at Education City, as I'm working for QF. Although it's a 30 minute drive from where I live, it'll be nice if I can register for some Arabic classes or book a massage there ($11 for half an hour. What?)

Today: Orientation. A long day, but we got a school tour, went over some rules, got to see our classrooms (the last teacher in mine was not organized at all, I'm struck by just how much there is to do!), started up our bank accounts and got some free stuff

Lunch was great (I ate scalloped potatoes, taboleh, beef in a sauce with veggies, chicken, fish and raw veggies) This week free, during the school year the price of the food is variable, but generally 2-5$ per day for a full DELICIOUS meal with choice. craycray.

In the school, I particularily liked the shaded pee chart in the washroom that showed the various pee shades of dehydration and advised you on what to do if your urine was darker. Mine is more or less always on the dark side (perhaps tmi but) I drink water all the time, it's more as a result of eating a healthy diet and taking extra B vitamins, that I then pee out.

Apparently the kids are only allowed outside for 10 mins per day this time of year, because of the heat.

Also - our campus has a LAWN. Grass does not grow naturally here, at all. Lots of beige sand all the time, so a bit of greenery is exciting.

Life here is so much more awesome now that it's actually happening!
