Jessica's day as a booth babe

Just when I was complaining about nothing interesting happening in my life, it all starts happening at once!
In my second year of uni I joined the new Sci-fi and Fantasy society and had a blast. There were very few of us regulars but I loved being able to watch films then talk to the others afterwards, or watch funny internet videos with them. During my third year I signed up to be the society's secretary but...It sort of died. It was because the guy assigned as the new president was a lazy arsehole who didn't do anything and didn't even attempt to get the society going! I knew I couldn't have done it because it was too late to register a new society with the student union, and I knew I wasn't competent enough to run a society.
But thankfully, Tim has returned from his year of studies in Rotterdam and started the society up again! I'm happy because he's a real doer. The type of guy who can do everything that he has to and more. Ahh, I wish I could be like that too!!
But anyway, he needed help with the Fresher's Fair stand. That's where they advertise all the societies and people sign up to them for the year. He was short of people so he Facebooked me and asked me to help. Even though I've graduated there's no law against me helping so I said yes. I have no job, barely anything to do and anything like this looks good on my CV!
The night before, I had really bad insomnia. Ugh, I don't know what's wrong with me recently! Sometimes I just find it impossible to fall asleep! How can that be possible when I sometimes sleep for 12 hours straight? I got a grand total of two hours sleep before I got up. I decided I was still ok to go, despite being very groggy.
I was asked to cosplay so I put on my Tohru Honda costume. Any excuse to wear it, really!! I didn't do the hair ribbons since I didn't have time and they look crummy when I tie them myself anyway. I was also asked to bring some posters and plushies to brighten up the stand. I set up my plushies on the table to look nice and cute and on the wall behind the stand I hung up my Merlin, Sam & Max and Death Note posters. Tim and Jade had been up until 3am making posters for the stand. Lots of nerdy pictures for geeks to laugh at.
Our table was sandwiched between the surf society and the St John Ambulance volunteers. Everyone else in our row looked much more professional than ours. The army had televisions, the roleplayers had full costumes, the surfers had proper banners. Our pictures glued onto card looked a bit noobish. But it didnt' matter. Within half an hour our sign up sheet was almost full!! The surf society is popular enough but I was a bit worried that we were diverting people from the St John's ambulance.
The day consisted of Tim yelling out 'Anime! Manga! Science Fictiion' over and over like a preacher, and me standing next to him looking pretty and yelling out similar things. There was a DJ 2 tables down from us which didn't make it very easy. When we coaxed someone in, we told them about the first event, emphasising the freeness and got them to sign up. They would either walk past casting us weird looks, stand there looking like a confused student before putting their names down or jump at the first sight or mention of their geeky interest. I'm glad to say that my posters, costume and sales tactics sold a fair number of people. One girl signed up just from seeing my Merlin poster. I told her about my Merlin adventures and made her really jealous! Another, who didn't sign up, said 'Are you dressed as a japanese schoolgirl? Awesome!' and then asked if any of us were furries. Not that there's anything wrong with being a furry but...You don't just ask it!! There was also a fun moment when Tim got muddled and called me a crossdresser instead of a cosplayer, and i screeched at him 'Do I look like a crossdresser?!'
At around 2 I had to leave for my job centre appointment. I was tierd and had lost my voice anyway. But I had a fun day and a very unique experience. I'm not a student but Tim said I could come to the events, and I said I would help out again if he needed me with anything. I also ran into my friend Kayleigh and arranged to get back the Torchwood dvd's of mine that she still has.
Right now I'm shitting bricks for next week. First I have a job interview and an editing test. They're going to find out that I exaggerated on my CV and am totally incompotent with their software. I bet two well muscled security guards will burst in and drag me from the building...
Also ther's going to be a huge train crash in Emmerdale, and one of my favourite characters could potentially die. Eeeks!!
