So yesterday was grand...absolutely grand.
Aja got here and we left my house around 9...I woke up at 2am...so it was interesting, but all fun lol.
We get there around 11ish, finally find exactly where this festival was being held, and went to go eat. Pizza Hut was amazing. Went back, sat around for a few hours...it was amazing there.
We decided to go driving around after we got a schedule, and saw that he was playing at like...8:30 (but festivals never stay on schedule, so of course it was later than that). So yes, we end up getting back to the place at like...5:30, maybe?
On the way back to the place, we got pulled over. It wasn't cool at all. There was apparently this one way street, but it wasn't marked at all from what we saw...so this cop HAD to be right in front of us, and got us over. There were people like...yelling at us outside the car...I guess there's a really nice part of Marion that's all like "small townish" and then there's the ghetto part...yea...that'd be where we were lol.
Anyways...we were both like shaking because she doesn't have insurance...he didn't ask for it though. She gave him her license and all, and he was really...odd lol. I think he thought we were lying or something, so he went and ran her license, and then we were both too shocked/scared to even show it, you know? But yea, nothing came up (about the insurance), so we were able to go back to the festival. (I guess if he knew, she basically would have gone to jail, and I would have been stuck there alone or something lol..it would have been interesting to say the least)
So yea, we go to the park at the elementary school that's pretty much on the campus, hang around there for a while. End up walking around the campus a little more ...yea- I guess all of this is boring to people who weren't there lol...so on to the show?
Yea, he was AMAZING live. Like...seriously, I was incredibly impressed. I've liked him for a while, but he was never in my top 10 or anything. He sounds great live...like, some bands are great on albums, and horrible live...he definitely hits it live, sound-wise, and puts on a really fun show.
About 3/4 of the way through, this really lame pit starts up, I stayed in for two songs, but I've ALWAYS said that third row is the worst place to be at shows...first and second, you're out of the pit, but starting at third, forget it lol. But my camera settings got kinda screwy because of it, so I got out. Some roadie guy saw me standing to the side and just told me to go stand at the side of the stage, so even after I was out, I still had a good spot.
There was a girl who was FLIPPING out during the encore, she ran up next to me and was talking to Bryce (calling him Rocket lol) she was like "ROCKET!!! ROCKET!!! PLEEEASSEEEE PLAY I WAS SO ALONE! YOU HAVE TO! ROCKET- I WAS SO ALONE!!!!" and like...she sounded totally crazy..I thought she was going to fall over dying...no joke lol. But yea, the roadie guy told "hey, go over to his merch table right after the show, and he'll be there"...so of course I took note of that.
After he did a few last songs, Aja came out and I told her what the guy said, so we went over there to try to get there before all the other people got there...yea, when we were talking at his table, he walked right up by us, so it took us like .5 seconds to talk to him, get 3 autographs, a picture, and get out of there...it was amazing lol. Yay for not waiting in some crazy line!
He's super short too...and it made me smile. haha...wow...yea, so when we took the pic, I was thinking to myself "man...his shirt feels really odd...feels like strange leather...oh...wait...it's wet, not texturized...ewhhh!" lol...twas good stuff.
But yea...besides the whole "24 hours without sleep, so lets spend the day out in the sun" thing, it was amazing. Good time, good conversations, good show! I was soo tired on the way home, like...during the last 20 minutes of the drive...maaaan I'd blink, and my head would fall down...it was so pathetic! So of course, I come home and spend like...2 hours online before I go to sleep, which caused me to sleep all day *sighs* go figure.
Things I learned in Marion:
1. Marion has slightly unmarked one way streets…with mean neighbors and cops!
2. Marion has lots of awesomely cool flowers in front of every house (no joke)
3. Never trust the Rocket Summer site for times.
4. IWU has the most perfect campus. It is the definition of perfect.
