This last week has been rather hectic.
This past Saturday, I ended up going to the Cure show at the Hollywood Bowl. Instead of waiting till the last moment to go this time, I ended up getting there rather early, in order to make sure I didn't miss the opening band - '65 Days of Static'. When I went to the Santa Barbara Bowl show, I ended up getting there rather late and missed there set entirely. They had some technical difficulties, but all in all, I was rather impressed with what they do--Along the lines of Post Rock (Rock or Metal with little to no Vocals) so I ended up picking up 2 of the CD's. Then the Cure went on, and I was definately happy that I had gone to the show. Originally, my intention was only to go to the LA show.. I decided at the last minute to go to the Santa Barbara show because in my mind I thought that it was going to be in March and not May (April 1st, I was supposed to see my new Nephew in North Carolina... ) so I figured that I was going to end up missing the LA show. So, originally I was debating not going to the LA show -- Mostly because it's a pain in the ass to get down to LA these days. With gas prices and everything else what normally would only be like a $10 trip is now a $30 trip.. Including parking charges and everything else.. It can be expensive. So I was on the fence for a bit.. Until I saw the SB show and was like.. Hell yeah I'm going! I was pleasantly suprised to see that while they played a lot of the same songs at the SB show, they played a different set.. So it's just nice to hear all these songs again. I had a great time and saw my friend Ian (who is now a new father.. Good luck to him!) who I hadn't seen in ages. Last time I saw him was when I was one of the groomsmen at his wedding.
Man, I wish I could find my copy of WISH right now -- I really want to listen to it.
On Monday, I had to drive down to Santa Ana for work (training) and ended up spending a night at a DoubleTree Hotel. Tuesday the training ended, and before heading home, I went to Amoeba Records, since I hadn't been there in a LONG time. Amiee Mann was doing a instore performance--Stayed through part of her set, but to be honest, while she was a great performer, I couldn't help but starting to feel a little bit depressed during her set. But from what I did hear, she was pretty good, but I don't really think it's my cup of tea.
Other than that, been dealing with trying to get Fios installed at the house and going to the gym. Been working hard to get into better shape. Trying to eat smaller portions and feel that it's ok to not eat everything on my plate ("But there are kids starving in... ") I've lost 7 pounds since Justin's Wedding! Just need to lose a lot more.
Tonight I ended up going to see Kung Fu Panda -- I highly recommend it. It's a good film. A lot better than what I was originally expecting. Stay to the very end because they have a small snippet.
Oh, I also started to use a CPAP machine. I went to have some tests done to see if I have Sleep Apnea.. And I do. Basically what that means is that during the night when I sleep, I would essentially stop breathing. I'd snore really loudly. If left untreated, it can lead to some really bad complications later on down the line (heart disease, high blood pressure, etc.. ) So I'm doing something about it. I remember some people who I have slept with (Get you're head out of the gutter.. Some of them just happened to be in the same room.) would say it sounded like i would stop. So I finally decided to do something about it and get tested for it. Last night was my first attempt at sleeping with the machine.--It's tempermental and not the easiest thing to do, but I figure I'll get used to it. When I did the test with the machine, they told me that I even stopped snoring when I used it.. So an added benefit.. Except I have this machine I need to wear and it reminds me of the Mask that Luke wore at the end of The Empire Strikes Back when he was in the water with the medical droids (at least I think it was Empire.. It's been ages since I saw the Triology.. Yeah, the Trilogy.. F the prequals.) So hopefuly with getting into shape and actually getting a restful night with the Machine, hopefully eventually in time I'll get into even better shape.
Started talking to a friend of mine from ASIJ .. American School In Japan.. Which I went for 6th and 7th grade. It's cool to be back in touch with someone that I knew from way back when. Oddly enough, it doesn't really seem like he's changed that much... But then, neither do I it feels like at times. I think we're all fundamentally the same people deep down inside. Also in talking with him, I found out one of my other good friends from that timeframe passed away a good 4 (or 8?) years ago. It sucks, because this friend actually went to USCB. Which if I had known him, I could have gone up and seen him before he passed due to Testicular Cancer. That upsets me a bit.. Mostly the missed opportunity to reconnect with him. Now I can't. Would have been nice to see how he turned out after all these years.. But I don't know what to think. My friend actually lives down in San Diego right now.. So I'm planning on driving down to see him the same time that I go to the San Diego Comic Con. So that should be cool.
That's pretty much it for now.
