Hey people, so having spent a few weeks here I have a lot more commentary. The city itself is fine, there's a lot to do, the people are nice, I'm just struggling a bit being on my own. Now the guy that did the fellowship last year & works for Second Harvest is super cool, and my field site partner is alright, but it's taking some time to get adjusted to the lonely life. I can't hang out with them 24-7 and some days carpooling and working in the same space is enough for one day. The people at the job are really cool, but most of them are older or have young kids. It's making me more introverted, which I'm not sure is a good look.
On a happier note, I absolutely, positively love my job. I'm really getting interested in all this food security, food policy council stuff...I'm going to be starting what will eventually become food policy councils in the Lake Charles & Lafayette metro areas, so I'll be all involved in Western Louisiana/Acadia/Cajun Country. I even convinced Gagan to enter a pepper eating contest next month that Emril says has some of the spiciest peppers, how exciting is that?!? ALthough the areas are cool, it'll be really challenging to convince them they need a food policy council, thus far, no smaller, Southern area hasn't created one. It's mainly (mid)/western food concious towns...Perhaps I'll do something groundbreaking, we shall see.
In other news, I'm super excited about going to Chicago next weekend. I'm going to be hanging with my godmother, who's amazing, but I've also got a bunch of cousins, a high school friend, an Agnes friend, a PPIA fellow, and 2 Emerson fellows to see. I don't know how it's all going to get done, but this should be a fun weekend. =)
So...whoever wants to visit New Orleans, let me know, I'm down here through Mardi Gras and welcoming visitors. =)
