Well, that was certainly a surprise. Although I did laugh quite a lot when he said he'd examined his conscience (where did he find it, after all this time?) and was retired due to ill health (funny, I'd have thought diseased, senile, and incompetent would have fitted right in).

The cynic in me wonders what unspeakable evil is about to revealed that prompted him to get out while the going is good.

But overall, I think Tim Minchin put it best.
