Well, it's less than two days to DragonCon and my costume's coming together. I tried to take pictures of my process as I went through and modified the goggles from the original VG800-H5s to try and make them look closer to the original. Here's what I came up with:

Thanks! I realized early on that it wasn't going to be a perfect match, but from a distance the coloring is right, and the six vents make it much more similar.

I know, I wish I had an extra pair around to destroy for the additional vents. What color did you use to get the tarnished rust color on there?

I combined gold and black acrylic paints to a dark gold color, putting it on in patches with a thick wash. before it dried I went back with a balled up paper towel to pick up a lot of the excess, giving the pattern that is visible in it. I upped the level of black in it to get the sootier look near the vents.

I'm still waiting for the paint to dry on mine. It's been about 20 hours. SIGH.

What kind of paint did you use? I used a Lacquer-based silver spray paint to base coat mine and it was dry to the touch, but slightly sticky in an hour, by the next day it was very dry.

I used spray paint made for plastic. It did eventually dry, just took FOREVER.

Did these goggles start out green and plastic? They look shiny! I'm looking forward to the instructions.

Yes, you can see more pics on my gallery at:

I've posted kinda before and after pics with an extra pair I pulled the vents from (with new vents added) showing the original green and shiny look.

I will work on the instructions after DragonCon.
