Goggles Project

I was modding out a pair of the dark green flip-ups for a buddy and Here's what I did:

(1) Remove the plastic bits- Vents come apart with a flathead screwdriver, Goggle part pops out.
(2) Wash rubber goggle body with dish soap to remove the oily film on them
(3) Use a fine-grain sanding pad to rough-up the surface of the goggle body
(4) Spray lightly with metallic silver Krylon Fusion. "Lightly" meaning either spray from a longer distance, or do what I did and hold it at arm's length and quickly move the goggles in and out of the spray. Let dry 30 minutes.
(5) Mix Hunter Green and Metallic Copper spray paints on some newspaper and apply it lightly with a 2" brush. (All the pics look like it's olive metallic and not really silver to me.) Let dry overnight.
(6) I clipped the tabs on the outside of the flip-up part, removed the flip-up, removed the lenses (turn the disc on the inside to unlock them), sanded lightly and painted it all flat black. Make sure to cover the inside plastic (that needs to lock in the lenses). Also, be careful removing this part, as the plastic clips are very cheap and broke on one pair.
(7) The real goggles have 6 vents, and these have only four. Since mine came in a pack of 2, I cannibalized the pair with the broken clip for parts. I drilled two more holes on the sides of the goggles with a routing drill bit (if that's the right word), holding a small piece of wood underneath to stabilize it. Cut the remainder to be round with a penknife.
(8) Carefully re-assemble the goggles with the vents and lens assembly.

The color isn't 100% but it's close enough for me, and much closer than the dark green rubber that it was before. My only complaint is that the paint is still a bit tacky to the touch. Not coming off, just sticks a bit. Maybe I'll find some satin-finish water-based clear coat in the garage.

Here's the finished product. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions.
