So I have - we have a new apartment. I know everyone mentions how awesome my current apartment is, but I promise this one is cool, too. Alright, so the lack of red walls in the living room does reduce it's coolness factor slightly, and the patio area is a bit narrower, but the view is fantastic. Plus this is a new apartment. Which means modern dishwasher, modern microwave and an oven that doesn't occassionally have to be beaten with a hammer to get it to work. And it's in an apartment complex, which means if any of those things do fritz out on me, I can just call someone and have it fixed with in 24 hours.
I'll admit, we aren't as conveniently located to the game site as we were, but we aren't that far (probably not any farther than Trey and Lisa were from the old site). While I don't consider this as good a location as my current house (I can't walk to a convenience store or a pizza place or a dry cleaners from the new place since pretty much everything that's with in walking distance is the rest of the apartment complex), but it will probably end up being a better place for wherever Andrew gets a job. Plus, I'm more than willing to trade off a little inner city convenience for the trees. I have a frickin' nature preserve for a backyard! And I'm sure the cats will love it.
But that does bring us to a point. I'm only allowed to have two cats. Chances are, no one would ever notice the third or make an issue of it, but I really don't want to lie to the nice landlordy people. Plus, I'm looking to downsize the number of cats I own anyway. So, if you're looking for a pretty, affectionate, and small white cat please let me know. Or even if you aren't looking for one, but are willing to take one. They really are fantastic cats, I just have too much of a good thing.
Anyway, where was I? Apartment of awesomeness. Yes. See, I really like my current apartment (I managed to get all the walls painted my ideal colors and everything), but it did have it's issues (mainly being old). Now most of those were slowly being fixed, but the place was never going to feel bright and shiny and new with out major renovation. That's not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but I'm talking about the reasons why I don't mind having to move (and unless I wanted to keep living with my dad for another year, I do have to move). As much as I like my current apartment, I really like the idea of living someplace new (the apartment we're moving into was built in 2003). There's also the roommate factor. My current apartment is very nice, but it's also very mine. And while I could have moved Garrett and Andrew into it (assuming my dad had agreed to move out) rather easily, it still probably would have felt very much like them moving into my apartment rather than us all settling down into our apartment.
So I know you will all (or all of you who saw it) probably miss my apartment of awesomeness, but rest assured that this one is going to be just as cool. In fact, it will be cooler because my dad won't be living there*, and Andrew and Garrett will be. For those of you who only came by for parties and on the weekends this isn't a big shift for you, but for me it's great. And then there are the trees. Trees are important.
We're probably going to start the actual moving in the last weekend in April. Well, Garrett and Andrew will. I'll be useless until the first weekdays in May. Actually, Andrew will probably be studying for finals that weekend. But Garrett can start moving his stuff. If you want to give him a hand, go ahead and schedule it into your calendars now. Luckily we don't have a deadline for getting stuff out of the current apartment, so we can do things in easy shifts.
Andrew's parents really want him to have a graduation party but we're probably going to be spending the weeks before and after his graduation moving in and settling down. So it would seem that the thing to do would be to throw a House Warming/Graduation party. Of course I'd want to wait until RenFest was over or else hold it on a weekday. Thoughts on this in the order the occured:
1) If it's on a weekday no one will be able to come.
2) Why not? It would be summer break so no school.
3) But most of our friends aren't in school. They have jobs.
4) Yeah, but a significant portion of them have restaurant or airline or retail jobs, which means that they aren't necessarily any more likely to be available on a weekend then on a weekday.
5) Clearly this requires more thought and is something I should actually discuss with my housemates before I make any attempt to make anything public.
And with that thought, I think this long, long ass post is finally done.
*I always feel the need to give a disclaimer when I right something like that. Living with my dad has not been bad. We get along really well and haven't had many issues. It's just that it's very much living with my dad. The whispered concerns of "when is your dad getting home" are things I will be glad not to have to deal with anymore.
