Microsoft Vs Apple: Apple Wins
A quick note to the masses. Last night I saved what culminated of 2 weeks of work on my most difficult chapter of my thesis. This morning I found my computer crashed thanks to Microsoft Word (to the point where I had to hard power down cause I couldn't even move the mouse).
I figured it's ok, I saved the file! But no, because the file was still open when the computer crashed Word had done something to the file that rendered it unreadable upon reopening. In Word's attempt to save the file I lost all my references, all my images, all my tables, all my cross links, all my formatting, etc, etc, etc.
Thank god I am using a Mac.
Rewind to last night when, just because it was so easy, I told time machine to wirelessly backup my hard drive to my time capsule. As I was going to bed my files were being saved. Today when I find that my thesischapter6v3.doc was screwed up I just went "back in time" to last night when I made the update, restored the file, and poof! my problems, they are gone!
Might I note that Vista doesn't have hourly wireless incremental backups like OSX. If it wasn't for time machine, I would probably be drunk by now. Instead I get to finish placing my images and start work on my next chapter...wait...DAMN!
