"Make it your own" Imbue the thing, whatever the thing is, with a lethal of dose of YOU in all your you-ness. Write the book, and don't make it sound like anything we've heard before. Your voice has tone that's yours, pitch that's yours, timbre that's yours, only yours. To not leave a fingerprint on the work you're doing is near criminal.
Sin, by the way, is a master of disguise. Once of the most deceptive in the wardrobe is in the art of wasting time, WASTING TIME. There's always something to be done, something to read, something to learn, something to understand, something to feel. And neglecting those things in favor of an easy 6-hour wheel-spin session? Unconscionable. In this, I am guiltier than you. I mean, we're all gunning for about 80 years. That's a good life, that's no tragedy. So to wrap your pretty skull around the idea, the fact really, that Act I's halfway done and curtain's up sooner than later....hear that sound? That's the sound of you quaking in your boots because you lost most of your life to things that don't matter anymore. Keep moving!
My finger-tips are grazing the outskirts of a dream. Just barely, just barely, just a few inches more and I'll get a fantastic grasp. I can assure you, once I get a hold, a real hold, I won't be letting go.
