I played quite a bit of CoD4 multiplayer over the weekend and am not quite nearly as impressed with it as you are. You do gain xp while playing so you can have access to more perks/weapons/mods/etc which is a pretty cool system. However they gave in match rewards for kill streaks which enable you to kill more, creating a positive feedback loop for success with is really discouraging for folks of varying skill levels.

Have you played Portal yet?

I haven't gotten teh 0range B0x yet, no. Too many games already! (I'm sure I will before terribly long.)

Have you played the campaign for COD4 yet? That's the part I found impressive. It's not "deepest game ever" impressive, but I'd certainly give it most impressive shooter cred.

I looked into the single player a bit, and I think the game would be much more structured around the objective based urban squad combat that the game seems ideal for. Probably not going to get around to it until I get a new gaming desktop. Is it just me or does CoD4 run particularily slowly on all but the most modern machines?

You need to get Orange Box. Portal alone is worth the price of admission, whereas HL2 Eps 1+2 are also quite nice. Plus TF2 is probably one of the best all around multiplayer games that I've played in a while.

In update... I've played through Portal now. And yes, it's awesome times a million (or like a million).

TF2 is fun like TF:C was fun... silly, very well done, with good specialized classes. Have to say, as much as I agree it's a great game, COD4 (particularly, hardcore team deathmatch) really is more my style.

Need to play HL: Episode 2 though.
