Family!

So I spent a lot of time with my mom this weekend. In which, after spending all that time together learned that she is closed minded. Tory and I recently announced our intent to finally go ahead and get married. My mother doesn't understand truely who we are together. I love her but, I am not sure how many more times I need to tell her I am not a Christian and I do not in fact believe in 1 God. The closest thing to what I believe is Paganism, which as we all know is Nature and Gods and Goddesses. So she says that my family will be confused as to what a handfasting ceremony actually is and that they may become uncomfortable with what we are doing if they do not understand it. Ok I get that, but its not like we will be killing a goat and drinking its blood, ew, so not my thing! We just simply would like to do a Renaissance / Medieval wedding, which so happens to have a Handfasting ceremony as part of the wedding ceremony. *Sigh* So I give her some info. on the subject and plan to find a nice summary to have on hand to help explain to any family that asks. Keep in mind I have a cowboy/ blue collar kinda family (Christian (devout)). Okay so I know that I have not followed the path that the rest of my family has followed, but it seems like no matter what I choose I have to explain. I love them, but I guess I am the open minded thinker, the educator and the healer, in a family that God is everything and everyone and thats it, that all! Okay so on my truelly challenging endeavor of "Honor Thy Self" also "Be true to what we want" I am just going to have to figure out how to diplomatically and lovingly educate my not so open minded family. And in the middle of all that my mom feels the need to share info. about abusive relationships " not suggesting that you have one", " Just wanted to share the info." *SIGH* And the rollercoaster begins. I forgot to metion, our families will be meeting for the first time on Friday! I will let you know how that goes. off to ponder new ways to bring out what we want for our wedding! and how to make them happen!
