"Why bother?"

Believe it or not, I actually have an answer. I can't tell you it's a good one. But it's one that worked for me in a similar situation.

If you want to know "why bother?" because in the end, you ended up with less money/respect/job security/all of the above than what you started with, or had along the way... well, you'll probably never find a good answer for that question with that context in mind, I think.

Put simply: you bother because of the journey "bothering" gives you. You can't do it because of the destination. At worst it'll disappoint, and even at best it will only remind you of the amazing things you saw down the road.

Your journey gave you an opportunity to spread your wings, to do supply management, HR, a bunch of things that you enjoyed. Would you have guessed you'd get to do all those things when that journey started? Maybe. I can't imagine you could've guessed all of it.

But those opportunities will present themselves, always. It's life. It's guaranteed to be good for a twist or three. And if you like dealing with twists, handling new things, you'll feel rewarded by that.

But you only get to experience those if you engage in the first place. Half-ass it, and you miss out.

I know we don't talk much, and this probably seems out of left field. But it was something that helped me in the past. I hope you find some peace from it too. What your current destination looks like it'll be is just another stop on the journey. The previous stops were pretty great. This one, not so hot. Keep walking, and ten gets ya twenty you'll run into some amazing things again.

...and, heck, if you think there aren't that many in the future, keep walking -- and just find a convenient fork in the road and take it.
