Question for my American friends

If someone was going to junior college when would they start and finish? In the UK school/college years start in September and end in July, is it the same?

Junior college usually takes two years instead of four (you have to take your other two at a university), but the general schedule is late August or early September through early May, and sometimes through June, but that's rarer.

Thank you hun.

Is University the same sort of timescales? And do you have to go to University after junior college?

No worries!

University would be the same, yeah. And you don't necessarily have to go... it depends on what you want to do. Junior colleges offer associates degrees or certificates in stuff like auto repair, computer networking, x-ray technician, that kinda thing. And the university would get you a bachelor's degree in English or Math or whatever it is you want to do that's more advanced.

A lot of people will go to junior college in order to get what are called your gen-eds: the general education requirements that are part of every bachelor's degree. It's a lot cheaper to do that, because Math 101 is Math 101 everywhere, basically, so why pay for the university to teach it to you instead? And when you finish your gen-eds you can transfer easily to a university for your last two years.

Ah I see. Wow, the whole system is so different from here.

I am writing a fic and trying to get things as correct as possible but my lack of knowledge in the US educational system is tripping me up lol I know I can take certain liberties - the show itself has made up a whole University but I wanna at least try for realism.

Thanks ever so much for your help hun
