Day 4

Dec 06, 2008 23:05

A day of exploration. TDL had really worn us out so we had a late start. We hit several places our little guide book said would be fun. Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Harajuku. We went to Shibuya first. Shibuya is known for it's shopping I guess. Everywhere we walked there where stores. There was a pretty cool Disney store (cause we just don't get enough of that place). We went and saw the little Hachiko statue (a really loyal dog, kind of a thing when you go to Shibuya I guess). After that we went to Harajuku. We only saw one packed street. Shops lined every concivable inch of this place! It was a steady flow of people. For such polite people, people are sure rude in crowds here! After the rush of Harajuku it was on to Shinjuku. Shinjuku is supposedly the stereotypical Tokyo. Bright lights and what not. Also our book said it was full of 'Sleazy Strip Clubs' and 'Gay Porn Stores'. I'm not joking. But we went the wrong way from the station, and wandered around a few blocks of stores. Disappointed we headed back to the station. We made a last ditch effort and checked the other way and hit the jackpot! Neon lights everywhere. Stores where 10 stories high or more it seemed! It was full of people. But after such a long day we where both a little worn out again, so we headed home.

One thing that is so weird here is everything has more than one level. It might be some little hole in the wall food joint, but it'll have an upstairs for sitting. Shopping stores are usually 3 stories or more. So they end up being extremely large. In the big stores usually a floor will have certain items on one floors (cameras on one, tv's on another etc). It's very strange. I'll have some great pictures to put up at the end of this!
