"I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!"
For as long as I can remember, WLNS has been my favorite news station in the Lansing area, but they have caused me intense anger.
I've aired my complaints with them publicly and privately. In a recent report on the new Ingham County 911 center, they implied in the lead that issues with the center led to three deaths. Nothing in the story supported that accusation.
If there are issues with this new 911 center and/or its employees, that is your story, and that should be your lead. Any competent journalist knows the lead is everything. There is no need to exploit the deaths of three innocent people to sensationalize your report which is what I believe WLNS has done with this report. And it is just that sort of shoddy work that has eroded our trust in news media.
I've aired my complaints in the hopes they will show more respect to the privilege of public trust which they've been granted. I believe they owe everyone in their story and their viewers an apology and a commitment to greater responsibility to the public trust.
