Clear the soapbox, it's the Attack of the Revenge of Mouthy Asshole Theater! On today's edition, PS3-tardedness...
So, I still haven't bought a PS3. Haven't even thought about it. Aparently, a lot of people in England and France feel the same way. Last night was the midnight launch of the PS3 over there, and only about a tenth of the expected crowds turned up.
However, this is not so much an excercise in schadenfreude over Sony's continual bungling of the PS3. Well, it sort of is, but it's more directed at the rabid PS3 fans that clog the internetz these days, the ones that declare jihads on XBox 360 owners and keep insisting that the PS3 is The One Console to Rule Them All. One of the main things that's been making it tough for the PS3 zealots of late is the fact that the PS3 seems to be losing exclusive titles like rats deserting a sinking ship. Resident Evil 5, Grand Theft Auto 4, Virtua Fighter 5, all titles that were originally planned to be PS3 exclusives have announced that there will be XBox ports of these games. Granted, that's not too terribly surprising to me. When you have third party developers working on next gen games which get more and more staggeringly expensive to produce as time goes on, it's only good business to want to grab as much of that fat money buffet as you can. Businesses want to make money, and it's a very simple equation to realize that you can make more money selling games to both XBox 360 AND PS3 owners. However, the exclusivity ship-jumping is starting to get serious. THere are rumors that the next Final Fantasy, one of the Granddaddy PS titles may not be a PS3 exclusive. That's unconfirmed, and no one really seems to know the truth, but again, it wouldn't be surprising. MOre consoles = More bucks.
Well, it seems that Capcom has just gone too far. They've finally done it, and spit in the eyes of PS3 owners one too many times with their announcement that Devil May Cry 4 will not be PS3-exclusive. It pissed people off enough that there's a
PETITION to boycott Capcom games because they're bringing DMC4 to more than one console...
Seriously, guys. WHAT?! You're saying you're going to boycott a game because 360 owners will be able to play it too? To me, this seems an awful lot like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Seriously, let's get a little perspective. There's a game coming out that you're DYING to play. But now, becuase it's not ONLY for the PS3 Club, you're going to take your ball and go home?! Sorry, but that's the dumbest thing I've heard in... the last 10 minutes at least. WHO CARES if 360 owners can play the game too? Just shut up, go back to your parents' basement(Or The Dragon's Keep, as I'm sure you call it), turn on your PS3 and just PLAY! I know that life's a little empty for you, but really. I've mentioned this before and I'll say it again just Shut The Fuck Up And Play the Game!! Do you really think that Capcom is going to read your petition, have their small corporate hearts grow three sizes and bow to your will? Don't hold your breath. Or at least, don't do it when you're standing near your carefully arranged display of mint in box Star Wars figures. Seriously, just STFUAJPG. Is that too tough to understand? Try this helpful graphic I got from the Destructoid site...
Oh yeah, and people who are Disciples of the Wii? Yeah, don't think I don't see you guys over there snickering. This applies to you too.
Do you have it now? Good. Now, if you will excuse me, I'm going to follow my own advice and head back home, where I will play some God of War 2 on my PS2, followed by some MK: Armageddon on my OGXBox, rounding out the day with some Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess on my Gamecube.
Slainte.
