my possible cure for boredom

i think i really must be bored. i was in b&n yesterday and i had this sudden urge to read. i was never a big reader, in fact, i hate reading. but while looking at these books with the cool covers and neat titles (ok, so maybe i shouldn't judge it by it's cover) i was dying to pick up a book and read. i think my brain is dying.

anyway, i was going around the shelves looking at the non-fiction and all i saw were books about 9/11, american history and other stuff i honestly don't care much for. i guess heading for non-fiction was a bit too ambitious of me so i decided to look at the fiction area. i came across a whole wall of books from oprah's book club. i thought this might be interesting until i remembered that a cousin of mine, who is a voracious reader, said that most of her recommendations suck. how sad.

and then, in true madonna fan fashion, i came across a book whose title she used as a line in one of her songs, "the heart is a lonely hunter" by carson mccullers, so i figured this is it. lucky for me, the reviews were good. i think it's a sign. that will be the first book i will read for the summer.

hmm... actually, these are the books i'm hoping to read:
1. catch 22
2. history of kabbalah
3. any book by f. scott fitzgerald (except the great gatsby)
4. a literary classic (except shakespeare)
5. a non-fiction book about something important

i wonder if this is too ambitious.
