[Lestrade--Greg, Greg, he reminds himself internally as his wife's constant mantra rings in his ears: 'Can we talk about something apart from your job? Once a week isn't too much to ask...'--finds himself standing by the table of food and not particularly interested in any of it. He would try talking to his wife about something apart from his job, but she seems to have wandered off with some other women for the moment. Best leave well enough alone in that case--he really would like to stay out of the back garden tonight, given how cold it's getting even by the fire.]
[He casts his eyes toward the flames licking up toward the sky and then around at the flickering illumination on the people's faces in the all but completely faded twilight and fire. He finds that he's always on edge these days, always expecting things to tip off at a moment's notice. It isn't like him to be so edgy, but he can't quite account for it.]
[He's about to try to decide whether he wants a beer or a coffee when a small child, about seven, comes up and tugs on his long coat. He apparently simply exudes a sort of aura of helping the public good, even when he's off duty, because the next thing the child wants to know is if he can help him get some marshmallows on a stick and show him how close to the fire to hold them. He smiles just a bit and decides it can't hurt, but once that's done and he wanders back away, he's at a bit of a loss for what to do with himself.]
