Imprudence of Prudence...

Gambling again!  This time with time and energy.

As if THAT was new...

OK, we have a project here at Jolly Dicey.

A shirt, a justaucorps jacket, a waistcoat, and a divided skirt, all to do for the next Maelstrom even, starting September 9th...

Yes, this year!

I've drafted the patterns up.  There will be no toiles and no fittings, as this is a Distance Learning Experience.  It'll be on the field as a Malivar's product.  And we will diary it for presentation after the event.

So what am I doing this weekend?

Making Lady Prudence a jacket.  Today.

Yes, all of it.

Yesterday I was helping Himself with a woodworking project he's doing for me for LARP: fold flat dress stands for our boutique in the field. (Yes, there are a few pix.  I'll get him to diary it.)  Tomorrow I'm off to meet the sisters and go round that well known council house at the top of The Mall in London...

Tuesday i'm off to the Moorefield again for a checkup (following the retinal emergency last week... ) and then to Hertford to get fabric for the customer project.  That leaves today.

So Lady Prudence Dance, Proprietor of Malivar's in the New World, is getting a jacket to go over her Pirate Frock to keep her warm.

I started with some ideas.  It doesn't need to be historically accurate, it doesn't go over stays, and, naturally, I started with some historical ideas.  Well, why not?

There was this adorable jacket created by the very talented American Duchess.

There was this amazing thing.  Bit later than I wanted, but still splendid...

And this piece of perfection from the V&A.

None were quite what I wanted, though the last came closest.  So I sketched some ideas...

Princess cut body, large puff sleeves with deep cuffs ending above the wrists so she can reach into her pockets for pistols, godets front and back, buttons up the front, and made in black wool.  In fact, the left overs from the funeral suit!  And if this doesn't get finished in time, the funeral suit jacket will probably fit over Prudence's Mock Kirtle...

I fiddled about a bit, and drafted up a pattern...

The body sections are quite small, but the sleeves are GIGANTIC!  Prudence does love her big sleeves...  There are wings and godets and buttons to cover, and big puffy sleeves and it's all lined, and there will need to be about a dozen buttons all covered...

Right, now I need to get the thing cut out.  It's getting a boring black lining so it can go with anything.
