The Elizabethan Shirt: Experiments with Lace

Jun 07, 2011 13:06

The experiments this afternoon with the cotton and lace appear to be working.

I thought, before I set out to make the whole thing up, that it might be a good idea to see if my thoughts on attaching the lace would work.  It would seem they do.  Oh, good!

First I ripped off a bit of the cotton calico and marked where I was going to put the first bit of lace...  I sewed it on using a narrow zigzag.  I sewed the end on the 'wrong' way round and then flipped it over so that it wasn't a raw end.  This seems to have made it work quite nicely.  The next thing was to zigzag the sides down and then trim the fabric off the back...

That went quite well, I thought.  A few good tuggs didn't pop any stitches, so I tried some diagonal suff.

That also went well.  I'll be setting out on the real thing now...  Off to draft up the pattern!
