Sneaked this one in under the wire...

ravenrigan and I had looked briefly at this idea, along the lines of 'It's a shame we don't have time to do... '  But the idea wouldn't leave me alone.

So while queenortart and I were dying the green and purple stuff -

And she was cutting out all the stripes in the western hemesphere, I got stuck into finding out just how quickly I could make a coat!

`I used the same pattern that we used for pengshui_,aster's blue and cream oats as we had it and we knew it fitted,   I cut it out of a bit of the gray wool mix rejected from the sewing-the-suit-for-Mum's-funeral adventure, and went for it!

As this was not to be lined, I cut the facing to go round the back of the neck.  The tailor's canvas was fused for the facing and the cuffs and pocket flaps, and all the edges were serged firmly with a 4 thread stitch for neatness and durability.  I decided that I'd use the military pocket flaps and the shaped cuffs just to make a change from the decorated coats.  This will be utterly plain: a daytime coat fo the doctor.

Seams were pressed neatly as construction progressed...  The cuffs were stitched on and then serged for neatness and durability, even though this bit will never be seen!  The back vent and the pleats were pressed into place.

The hem has also been pressed up and machine stitched.  I still need to sew many buttons on it, neaten the tops of the pleats inside, and put some mock buttonholes down the outside.  But yes, the main sections of the coat were cut, fused, stitched and pressed in a day.  FTL coat anyone?

There will be pix of the completed item when I can get the cream one off the stand.
